Nita Ambani performed the Bhumi Pujan and groundbreaking ceremony at the proposed site on November 1. The project is planned as a permanent, not-for-profit institution that will be developed in phases, subject to the necessary approvals. The initiative is based on Reliance Foundation’s philosophy of ‘We Care’. Its aim is to create an inclusive community where people who need lifelong support can live in a safe environment with the warmth and belonging of a family.
Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray: A Lifelong Home for 5,000 People
The proposed township will accommodate more than 5,000 residents. Along with caregivers, medical professionals, support staff, and their families, the larger community is expected to comprise approximately 15,000 people. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Nita Ambani said the project was close to her and her family’s heart. She described it as an effort to build a loving home for people with disabilities, children who need a home, and senior citizens seeking care and comfort. She said the vision was to bring compassionate care and medical support together with the warmth of family life.
Residents will have opportunities to learn, work, make friends, and participate in festivals and celebrations. Nita Ambani also highlighted the concerns of parents who worry about who will care for their children with disabilities after they are no longer around. She expressed hope that the township would give such families peace of mind by ensuring that their children have a permanent home and a supportive community. Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray: Eight Residential Villages Designed Around Family Life
Rather than functioning like a conventional care institution, Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray is planned as a residential community where people live as neighbours, not patients. The township will have eight residential villages, each named after a sacred river of India. Every village will have its own colour, symbol, and sensory garden to help residents identify their surroundings and move around with greater ease.
Residents will stay in small, family-style homes supported by house parents and dedicated caregivers. They will be encouraged to personalise their rooms with photographs, colours, and personal belongings to create a familiar and comfortable living environment. Each resident will have an individual care and development plan prepared in consultation with the resident and their family. These plans will cover healthcare, education, skill development, employment, friendships, and personal well-being. A dedicated key worker will coordinate the support, with the plans reviewed at least once every six months.
Specialised Hospital, Rehabilitation and Healthcare Facilities
A key part of the proposed township will be its specialised healthcare and rehabilitation infrastructure. The facilities are intended to support people with developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, and complex medical conditions. The proposed hospital will provide developmental medicine, epilepsy care, special-needs dentistry, palliative care, and other medical services. The township will also include rehabilitation facilities offering physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and hydrotherapy. These services are expected to help residents improve their physical abilities, communication, and everyday independence.
Employment, Education and Community Support in Karjat
Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray is also expected to benefit people living in nearby villages and surrounding areas. Its temple, hospital, sports facilities, and cafés are envisioned to serve neighbouring communities. According to the announcement, approximately 1,000 people from the region are expected to access therapy, education, and employment opportunities. Thousands more could benefit from respite care, outreach programmes, and community healthcare services.
The project also proposes family respite homes and mobile medical clinics to extend support to families in nearby districts. A national training academy is planned to strengthen India’s disability-care workforce through specialised training and capacity building. These facilities are intended to make the township more than a residential centre by connecting it with the wider community and creating opportunities for local participation.
Reliance Foundation’s Anant Ashray Focuses on Dignity and Inclusion
The initiative addresses the long-term needs of people who may require continuous care and support, as well as families who have limited access to specialised services and respite facilities. For parents and caregivers of children with developmental disabilities, the question of lifelong care can be a major concern. The proposed township aims to provide a structured support system that can adapt to residents’ needs as they grow older.
With residential care, medical support, rehabilitation, education, and vocational opportunities planned within one campus, Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray aims to create an environment where residents can develop relationships, pursue interests, and participate in everyday community life. The 100-acre project will be developed in phases and remains subject to the required approvals. Once established, it is envisioned as a place where people who are orphaned, alone, or in need of lifelong assistance can find security, belonging, and a permanent home.
