RSPL Group has launched Ujjwal Sangini Swayam Sahayata Samuh, an initiative aimed at empowering rural women and creating livelihood opportunities across Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The programme brings women together through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to support financial independence, encourage community participation and spread awareness about personal hygiene and washing habits.
The launch event, titled Unkahi Baatein, provided a platform for women to share their everyday experiences, household responsibilities, personal aspirations and hopes for their children’s future. Discussions also focused on the importance of education, better opportunities and financial independence for rural women. The event also featured a rapid-wash activity to demonstrate RSPL Group’s products.
RSPL Group’s Initiative to Support Rural Women’s Livelihoods
Under the initiative, women associated with the Self-Help Groups, known as ‘Sanginis’, will connect with households in their villages and nearby communities. They will conduct product demonstrations, distribute samples and organise community activities to encourage conversations around personal hygiene and everyday well-being.
The programme aims to help women develop livelihood opportunities while building their confidence and encouraging them to participate more actively in their communities. Through regular household interactions, the Sanginis will also help make products more accessible to rural consumers. Self-Help Groups have already been formed in five areas of Kanpur: Shivrajpur, Ghatampur, Chaubepur, Kakwan and Bilhaur. Demonstrations and product sampling activities are being prepared as the initiative moves towards its next phase.
RSPL Group Highlights the Importance of Financial Independence
Commenting on the initiative, Kushalta Gyanchandani of RSPL Group said that empowering women at the grassroots level involves more than creating employment opportunities. The company believes that financial independence, access to information on health and hygiene, and the confidence to participate in community life are all important for women’s development. According to Gyanchandani, Ujjwal Sangini Swayam Sahayata Samuh was developed to bring these elements together and create opportunities for women to grow, become self-reliant and have their voices heard.
RSPL Group Plans to Expand the Initiative
RSPL Group plans to extend the initiative to more densely populated blocks in other districts of Uttar Pradesh. In the long term, the company aims to take the model to other parts of India. The planned expansion will focus on building a wider network of rural women who can support livelihood generation and community engagement at the local level. Through Ujjwal Sangini Swayam Sahayata Samuh, RSPL Group aims to combine women’s empowerment with livelihood opportunities, community participation and greater awareness of hygiene in rural India.
